Stamping

Our team has extensive experience with forming

Prototier has been Ontario’s sheet metal prototyping and short-run expert since 1996. Whether it’s a complicated deep draw prototype, a large stamping, or a short run of production parts, our team has the capability to stamp your parts on time and to your satisfaction.

Our stamping tools and processes offer many benefits over production tooling such as:

  • More flexibility in design changes
  • Lower initial tooling costs
  • The ability to discover design engineering problems early
  • Significantly shorter lead times than mass production tooling

At Prototier, we have 14 stamping presses that range from 40 to 1600 tons with bed sizes up to
60in x 192in (80 sq. ft.). Most of our presses are hydraulic, which use slower stroke speeds to help
achieve complex geometries. However, we also have several mechanical presses for blanking and punching requirements. Additionally, we have the modern CNC machines, laser cutters, and
assembly capabilities to complete full stamping projects and eliminate the need to use multiple
suppliers. We are also stocked with a wide range of sheet metal grades and thicknesses, allowing us to maintain tight delivery schedules. With our proven combination of equipment and expertise, we are ready for any difficult stamping requirement.

Prototier adheres to ISO 9001:2015 standards in order to supply the highest quality service.

Some of our past successful stamping projects include:

  • Door Hinges
  • Hood Hinges
  • Lift Gate Hinges
  • Engine Mounts
  • Seat Tracks
  • Door Latches
  • Hood Latches
  • Fuel Doors
  • Cross Members
  • Splash Guards
  • EV Battery Trays
  • EV Thermal Management
  • Exhaust Shields
  • Risers
  • Flex Plates
  • Catalytic Converters
  • Handles
  • Window Regulators
  • Deck Lid Hinges
  • Parking Brakes
  • Brake Pedals
  • Brake Arms
  • Clutch Components
  • And Much More!

We have experience stamping many different materials such as:

Deep Draw

Deep drawing is the manufacturing process of pushing sheet metal into a round or shaped forming die. Deep drawn parts are typically characterized by their cup shape and that the part depth is greater than or equal to the part diameter.

Prototier has over 25 years of experience with deep drawing parts for our customers. We have extensively developed the deep drawing process to determine the best practices for a successful deep-drawn part. From this development, we know that the slow ram speeds and adjustability of a hydraulic press will help achieve the deepest draw with fewer “pre-draw” stations required. This results in tooling and development cost savings for our customers. Prototier now maintains 11 hydraulic presses to ensure that we have the appropriate press for deep drawing. We also have the ability to deep draw a wide range of materials from HSLA steel to aluminum alloys.

Forming Simulation

Prototier has implemented the use of advanced forming simulation to validate the manufacturing of customer’s designs. Our team of experts can work with you to develop a part that is ready for manufacturing – from prototype to production. This analysis software has a wide range of material options that can provide valuable insight into typical stamping considerations such as forming limits (FLD), material thinning, strain, and spring back. We use this software to save our customers time and money.

Assembly

Prototier can also provide assembly services to complete your stamping project and eliminate the need to ship parts between multiple suppliers.

We currently offer the following services:

  • Orbital-Riveting
  • Staking
  • Clinch-Nut and Fastener Installation
  • MIG & TIG Welding
